Vigna del Fiore is the southernmost vineyard of Fattoria dei Barbi and one of the southernmost vineyards within the Brunello di Montalcino appellation. It is a narrow valley of pure Galestro where the grapes ripen perfectly, sheltered from both cold northerly winds and the hot Scirocco. The nearby Ribusuoli stream contributes to the vineyard’s natural water balance. The result is a Brunello of remarkable elegance and rare complexity.
Grapes Variety 100% Sangiovese
Vineyards Estate vineyards located in the municipality of Montalcino and registered for the production of Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. Soil: Galestro. Altitude: 350 m a.s.l. 2021 Growing Season The 2021 vintage in Montalcino was relatively dry (684 mm of rainfall) and recorded one of the coolest average temperatures of the past decade (18.4°C). Winter was mild, while warmer temperatures in early April encouraged early budbreak. During the night of 7–8 April, a light frost affected the lower-lying vineyards, reducing yields. May and June brought average seasonal temperatures, while good water availability through August promoted recovery from frost stress, ensuring gradual vine growth and excellent fruit health. July recorded no temperatures above 35°C, while August saw only four days exceeding this threshold, resulting in a moderate summer with cool nights that favoured excellent phenolic maturity. September was dry, with just 16 mm of rainfall recorded on the night of the 16th, providing ideal conditions for healthy fruit.
Harvest took place between 16 and 30 September.
What had initially appeared to be a challenging vintage ultimately proved to be of outstanding quality.
Vinification and Ageing Depending on the characteristics of the vintage, the destemmed and crushed grapes may undergo cryomaceration, a cooling technique that enhances the extraction of anthocyanins and polyphenols from the grape skins. Alcoholic fermentation lasts approximately 16–19 days at a controlled temperature of 27–28°C, followed by malolactic
fermentation. The wine is matured for at least two years in small- and medium-sized oak casks before being transferred to larger oak casks, then bottle-aged for a minimum of four months.
Chemical Analysis Alcohol 15.0% vol. – Total acidity 5.75 g/L – Volatile acidity 0.58 g/L – Residual sugar <0.5 g/L – Dry extract 31.4 g/L

Rich plums and cherries with hazelnuts and sweet spices. Pretty tight and flavorful, with medium to full body and a juicy, tense finish. Very structured and long. This needs two or three more years. Drink from 2027.

SourceMore vertical and sharply defined than the village bottling, the Fattoria dei Barbi 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Fiore delivers focused aromas of black currant, pressed rose and crushed stone. The tannins are carefully managed, providing lift and support without harshness, reinforcing the wine’s sense of precision and balance. This smaller, more hands-on production comes from the 5.7-hectare Vigna del Fiore site, with total output limited to 10,020 bottles.

Drinking Window: 2028 – 2042The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Fiore is expressive in the glass, with notes of crushed raspberry and cherry complemented by allspice and dried rose. Elegant and round, it offers perfumed red fruits and inner florals lifted by a wave of tantalizing acidity. The finish is crunchy and long, leaving a citrus tinge that puckers the cheeks as edgy tannins linger.

Pale garnet red in colour with purple undertones. On the nose: cherry, red forest berries, garden herbs, chocolate, violet and lavender florals. Bing cherry, dewberry, plum, pomegranate, range of spice notes and vanilla aromas. On the palate, focused with drive, compact tannins balanced with fresh acidity. All the elements are in harmony. Great length and overall balance. Linear and utterly classic in its form.
