This wine has the same characteristics of Brunello but with an easier approach. The grapes of Sangiovese come from the younger vineyards which produce aromatic and elegant wines with a medium body. It is the ideal every day companion for family meals.

Grapes Sangiovese 100%.

Vineyards Property of Fattoria dei Barbi, located in the district of Montalcino and registered for Brunello di Montalcino production. Soil: marl, shale. Altitude: 400-450 mt slm. The Year 2021 The Winter was quite dry, with sparse rains. The Spring was more humid, with a late frost spread all over Italy. The estate of Fattoria dei Barbi is located in medium – high hill, therefore the vineyards were not affected much. The Summer was warm and dry. The combination of sparse rains and frost reduced the quantity of grapes, but – as often happens – it brought beneficial effects for the quality.
The harvest took place from September 16th until October 1st.

Vinification Before the regular fermentation the grapes were subjected to a cold prefermentative maceration which consists in cooling the grapes at a temperature of 16°C. This process increases colour stability and improves extraction of polyphenols and aroma compounds. The alcoholic fermentation lasted 12/13 days at a controlled temperature of 29°-30°C. This wine had about 6 months of refinement in small/medium oak barrels and stainless steel vats.

Chemical analysis Alcohol 14 % – Total Acidity 5.8 g/l – Residual sugars < 0.5 g/l – pH 3,44.

Sensory analysis Colour: brilliant ruby red of medium intensity. Bouquet: raspberry, strawberry, red orange, saffron, balsamic herbs, a touch of mint. Taste: snappy and lively, vivacious. The sip is fresh and long.

Food Combination It is the perfect complement for roasted and grilled meat (both beef and white meat), cheeses and casserole dishes.

A ripe, fruity expression here with lots of dried cranberries and some savory tangerine-like characters. Crunchy and firm on the palate with a succulent, unadorned finish. Slightly chewy. Drink now.

This is the food-friendly, entry-level red from Fattoria dei Barbi. The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino is versatile, fresh and fundamentally fruity. The wine is easy and lean in texture with fresh cherry, blackcurrant and bitter almond. The wine’s fresh acidity is the element that ties everything together. Were looking at a release of 64,000 bottles. Drink Date 2023-2026 | Stefano Cinelli Colombini acquired 4.5 hectares of new vines last year, with 1.5 hectares registered to Rosso di Montricino. This historic estate skipped over its no sulfites’ Sangiovese in 2022 because rhere was not enough acidity in the grapes to make the wine they wanted. Fottoria dei Barbi has vineyards at a cool 200 to 550 meters in elevation.

2021 Rosso di Montalcino

Dark earth and tobacco tones give way to dried black cherries as the delicate 2021 Rosso di Montalcino opens in the glass. This is soft and enveloping, showing ripe red and blue fruits and pretty inner orals. The 2021 nishes with a staining of primary concentration, leaving a violet resonance and spice hints. This is a very subdued vintage of Barbi’s Rosso.

The 2021 Rosso di Montalcino offers up a lovely bouquet of spiced cranberry, compote leather, and dried roses. A structured wine, it is rich with tannins throughout, in a medium to full frame, with dried cherry, mocha, and turned earth. Although it is best suited for drinking over the next 5 years, it is hearty enough to warrant being paired alongside burgers or Bolognese. Drink 2023-2028.

Barbi’s Rosso is spot on 2021 juicy, fresh and high acid to gift what is right and correct. Having tasted samples and also a finished bottle of the Stefano Cinelli Colombini’s Toscana Rosso Senza Sulfiti there is no doubt about the connection between the two wines. Puts each in good light and makes sense of their complimentary positions as kinfolk each so fine to sip. Drink 2024-2026. Tasted November 2023.
