La Vigna del Fiore è un unico appezzamento di 5,7 ettari (14 acri) di terreno sassoso posta in un luogo dove la vite è coltivata dal 1500; è la vigna più a sud di tutta l’azienda e una delle più antiche. La sua speciale esposizione e la composizione del suolo conferiscono a questo Brunello eleganza, finezza di profumi e complessità al palato.
Prodotto dal 1981, è un vino con una grande capacità di invecchiamento, ma, per la sua armonia e piacevolezza, può essere goduto fin dai primi anni di bottiglia.

Altitudine: 350 m slm. Età media: 22 anni. Esposizione: Sud – Sud Ovest. Sistema di allevamento: Cordone libero. Ceppi per ettaro: 4.130. Resa per ettaro in quintali: 55.
Andamento stagionale 2019 Inverno con temperature leggermente sopra alla media; temperature minime sotto lo zero, concentrate soprattutto nella prima metà del mese di gennaio. Piovosità concentrate tra il 18 ed il 25 gennaio e nei primi 5 giorni di febbraio, per un totale nei due mesi di circa 70 mm. Il germogliamento è avvenuto nel tempi consueti, con precipitazioni attorno ai 100 mm e temperature medie sui 10 C° nei mesi di marzo, aprile e maggio. L’andamento stagionale di questi mesi ha portato a un rallentamento vegetativo di circa due settimane. Nei mesi di giugno e luglio non si sono registrati eventi piovosi di rilievo, ad esclusione di un importante fenomeno alla fine del mese di luglio (circa 70 mm in due giorni). Le temperature medie in questi due mesi si sono mantenute tra i 20 C° e i 25 C°, con picchi a 35 C° in sole due giornate. Il mese di agosto non ha registrato precipitazioni, se non attorno al 25 con 20 mm totali; le temperature nelle medie consuete, con massime tra i 30 C° e i 35 C°. Grazie alle riserve idriche accumulate e alle temperature che non hanno raggiunto picchi eccessivi, l’apparato fogliare è rimasto pressoché intatto ed efficiente e ha permesso una lenta e omogenea maturazione delle uve, ottimale per l’ottenimento di una perfetta maturità fenolica e tecnologica. Eventi piovosi durante la prima settimana di settembre hanno posticipato i tempi della raccolta e permesso un contenimento del tenore alcolico delle uve. Le uve Sangiovese in vendemmia si sono presentate in ottimale stato fitosanitario. La vendemmia è iniziata il 30 settembre e si è conclusa il 10 ottobre.
Vinificazione e Affinamento Le uve pigio-diraspate, in base all’andamento stagionale dell’annata vendemmiale, possono essere trattate con tecnica di criomacerazione, un processo di raffreddamento delle bacche che permette di ottenere una maggiore estrazione del contenuto in antociani e polifenoli. La normale fermentazione alcolica dura circa 16/19 giorni a una temperatura controllata di 27°- 28° C. Alla svinatura segue la fermentazione malolattica. Il Brunello Vigna del Fiore viene elevato in botti di piccola e media capacità per almeno 2 anni con successivo passaggio in botti a capacità superiore.

Abbinamenti Piatti ricchi di sapore come carni rosse stufate o selvaggina, grigliate o arrosti misti. Formaggi a pasta dura saporiti e ben stagionati.

Source December 2023 Week 2The Fattoria dei Barbi 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Vigna del Fiore is a darker and more concentrated expression with plum, cooked cherry, balsam herb, cola, pressed blue flower and toasted spice. Compared to the village bottling, this wine takes the intensity up a notch and offers lots of textured richness. There is a clear chalkiness to the tannins. The score gap between this bottle and the classic Brunello does not meet the price point difference (which is almost double for the Vigna del Fiore). However, with only 4,000 bottles made, this wine will prove more challenging to locate.

Hemmed in by forest and planted on stony soil, Vigna del Fiore is a 5.7 hectare plot cultivated by the Cinelli Colombini family since the 16th century. Long ageing in barriques and tonneaux confers a savoury nose of leather and porcini. Cinnamon and pressed florals add sweetness. Soft at first, this saturates the mouth with rhubarb compote and balsamic herbs. A coffee twist augments the complexity. It builds with grainy texture to a dry, assertive climax. Pouring a red/garnet hue, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino Vigna Dei Barbi needs some coaxing in the glass on opening, but when it does, it really gets going, offering notes of dried cherries, cedar, dried fl owers, mint, and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, it has good energy through the palate, with angular tannins, mouthwatering fresh acidity, and salty earth tones that last long on the palate, with a touch of warmth and notes of spiced orange on the finish. If the large quantity label of Annata-Classica will show youthfulness, wood and structure to need a few years further age than the single vineyard sangiovese will require two times the amount, at the very least. Vigna del Fiore fruit is deeper but also darker, richer in terms of texture and full of parts more developed. More than that are perfumes and spicing that demand attention while the interaction between fruit and structural parts are working through their motions. Having tasted the 2015 just the night before and finding it just beginning to reveal scenes two through four within act one notes tells us that 2019 VdF is likely 10 years away from that launching point. Sure it can be enjoyed to the fullest in five to seven years but the best will be a few more after that. Drink 2027-2033. Tasted November 2023.

More reserved than many, not in terms of fruit presence and ripeness but rather the fact that the aromas are a little monochrome. Harmonious, but there is a touch of warm furniture and library shelf behind the currant, which I wasn’t expecting to see. In truth, this improves with air, and 20 minutes later we have a much subtler wine, aromatically speaking: still relatively upper register, but subtle, harmonious, and giving. Sweet, warm, ample. The upper register holds, but this works so well in the upper register; splendid fruit energy, skillfully mastered tannins, long and articulate.
